Not  Mere Suggestion

To love our neighbors as ourselves
We first must understand
That it's not mere suggestion
But rather, God's command.

That we esteem our fellow man
Even those not kith and kin
As if they were of our own blood
And not just obscure men.

For if we hope to please the Lord
His bidding we must do
Instead of only choosing those
We see as tried and true.

But we can't hate our neighbors
And expect to gain God's grace
While pretending to be otherwise
If resentment, we embrace.

Though loving the unlovable
Is difficult at best
Yet, if we do so, in the end
We surely will be blessed.

Yes, to love our neighbors as ourselves
We first must understand
That it's not mere suggestion
But rather, God's command.
